Rising Up

Hey there. This is my first post so I thought I would first introduce myself. I am Madison Fratzke, a respiratory therapist. First of all, blog posting is not exactly one of my lifetime goals. I am an introvert. I have typed and deleted a thousand posts on social media afraid of being judged for my opinions. So why now? I am proud to be an RT, I love taking care of patients, and I love how being an RT fits into my life full of other interests. I have been an RT for about 14 years and I have grown...a lot. I have made leadership mistakes but learned from them. I want to use this platform to encourage aspiring therapists, keep fellow RTs in the profession, and elevate the abilities of our profession. How? Through the idea that every single one of you can change the world, make a difference, and improve outcomes by being a leader even if you are not in charge!

There is a lot of discussion about topics that people think are important. The bottom line is the absolute most important thing is the patient and providing the best care possible. Keith's videos outline what the literature supports in respiratory critical care, and I believe many of us need guidance on being bedside leaders to champion these standards of care. It is up to us as respiratory therapists to rise up, speak up, and be the best advocate we can be.

Maybe you will see some videos from me at some point. For now, thanks for reading!

Happy Upcoming Respiratory Care Week!

  1. Hi Madison, I totally understand where you are coming from. In the moment when our patients need us most I never second guessed myself, but I do when discussing and or writing. Thank you for this and all you do, Kiley.
